At the age of 37, Evan Tanner passed away late last week due to extreme heat exposure in the Southeastern part of California. A month prior to his death, Tanner blogged online about his upcoming trip to the desert.

“I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment could cost me my life. I’ve been doing a great deal of research and study. I want to know all I can about where I’m going, and I want to make sure I have the best equipment.”

He talked about the trip as he did with any of his other adventurous journeys in life — with the same kind of curiousness, excitement, and throw-caution-to-the-wind spirit that personified who he was as a person and as an MMA fighter.

A body was found Monday near the remote desert campsite where former UFC middleweight champion Evan Tanner vanished days before.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship said on its Web site late Monday that the body was indeed that of Tanner. But authorities have not confirmed the identity of the dead man, according to sheriff’s Lt. George Moreno.

A helicopter pilot spotted the corpse in a rugged area of Imperial County near the California-Arizona border, Moreno said.

Scientists hope the world’s most powerful atom smasher, the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, will unlock the secrets of the elusive ‘God Particle’ when switched on later this year.

300 feet below the French village of Crozet lies the world’s most powerful particle accelerator – the Large Hadron Collider. The goal being building such a monstrosity - no less than unraveling what the universe is made of. In a few months this machine will fire two beams of particles at close to the speed of light at one another to essentially see what happens when they collide.

This vast network of electromagnets, sensors and associative machinery has but one purpose – to shatter atomic particles in search of new knowledge and possibly matter from the edge of time itself.

Major oil firms Petron Corp., Chevron/Caltex and Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. will roll back their pump prices by P1 a liter effective on Saturday, a few days after small petroleum companies initiated the latest price adjustment.

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) activists, on the other hand, said with world crude prices steadily going down – with Brent crude reaching as low as $105 per barrel – they would demand that oil companies roll back pump prices by at least P7 per liter.

After much hiatus about Phillip Morris dropping sponsorship on the eheads concert because of some freaking law forbidding  all forms of tobacco advertising in mass media including the Internet, on Manny Paquiao’s boxing shorts,places strict restrictions on other tobacco promotional activities, and bans tobacco company sponsorship of concerts and other events. Oh cmon as if this would really protect the younger generation to avoid smoking total B.S! They managed to push thru with the concert,  from what I have heard the proceeds of this concert will be used to assist Francis Magalona on his medical bills.
